Last week, my blogs on a celebrity wedding screamed to the top of my social media charts, becoming my most popular posts and attracting more than nine thousand readers within 3 days. For someone who barely blogs, this was a remarkable achievement.
Which begs the question: what if that wasn’t a celebrity wedding?
What if I post wedding pictures of some simple folks from the faceless crowd?
I can accept that we are naturally attracted to fame. But do the rest of us deserve any less, just because modern society ranks us lower? I’ve been advised – more often than you can ever imagine – that I should treat a certain people nicer, that I should take more special photos of them, because they are “more important” and “can pay”. I can see the pragmatic benefits, but I’ll never forgive myself if I ever indulge in something so tasteless and disrespectful to the common folk.
Just because I photographed someone famous doesn’t make my work better.
I wish not to be judged by the status of my clientele – and I wish the same for all passionate artists out there – for within us lie a deeper desire to touch and be touched by others. I hope we do not judge others by their so-called status, for true beauty lies within, if we invest the time and patience to empathise.
