I started photographing people in 2002 with nothing but plain boring backdrops, and a couple of studio lights.
With nothing in the background to make my photos interesting, I was forced to work with only 2 things: light, and the person in front of me. It was the most profound photography experience I’ve ever had.
I’m still shooting plain boring backdrops today. The language of beauty can be dazzling, but I believe it’s best said with simplicity and heart.

The camera isn’t just a tool to capture the obvious. If we take the time and heart to listen and empathise, we will discover a beauty beneath how people look on the outside.
It’s a wonderful blessing for us, as artists, to have this ability to touch people’s lives.
